ccp needs to make a living. They need to make a profit somehow. This is what helps to keep the game running in the first place. people who buy items should be praised not frowned upon because they are paying for the dev's salary and the server uptime.
P.S. Now if you guys want a REAL P2W service, I will gladly offer my services. How this will work is that you give me money, I log into your account and win X amount of games for you. Then you can come on forums and brag about how epic you are. My skills are epic and your character will look awesome in no time.
LOOOOOL
Go up against a player of equal skill in your militia gear while they use proto gear and see who wins.

General John Ripper wrote:finding players of equal skill can be hard sometimes. The majority of players on this game suck as which is true with almost any fps game. Only a few good players can consecutively stand out in almost everygame. Sometimes people get lucky but if your good enough you can come out on top on almost everygame.
Even if I were to find someone with an equal ability to my own, I would welcome the fact. I would love to be challenged. People die and come crying on forums. Mostly because they die often. I on the other hand would enjoy my deaths because I can tell where I went wrong. I can reflect on what I can do differently. I can think about what tactics my opponent used to kill me.
Any serious player would be able to buy decent gear on this game. So using militia is only an example. Some people even stick to using militia to develop their skills even further and save isk. They don't want to develop bad habits with the ease of use of higher tier gear. I played with militia gear for over a month and my aim is impeccable.
Not sure if serious...or not sure if you played last build. Pretty sure these "great" players people talk about all use Proto equipment in pub games.
The point you were trying to make in your OP was Skill > Better Gear.
So my point is, if this is the case, why don't these great players use Militia gear in corp games since they're so beast and gear has no effect on their godly skills.
Please. In this game Gear > Skill.
When everyone is using proto gear, then you can talk about skill, because that's when everyone is on the same playing field. |

Why is AUR gear P2W? You can get the skills to fit the AUR gear eventually. It shouldn't be P2W. It is though instead of spending 600k SP on heavy 4 you can instead spend that 600k sp in more shields/armor/better modules. So two people with the same amount of skill points but one using AUR has the advantage. He can take that 600k sp or w/e and spend it somewhere else.
Over time though players will eventually skill into those skills that were skipped because they give a skill bonus. How does CCP make money then? You can't spend 2 years skilling only assault dropsuits eventually you will get a secondary class/more weapons. This again allows you to get the AUR advantage. Also its free to play and really the newer/just starting to skill a thing players who get an AUR advantage.
What in my opinion is over powered is the AUR variant of modules providing the same bonus as the ISK ones but they have reduced fitting costs ( see damage mods (infantry)/ shield extenders ( infantry ) cant remember which one it is). That is someone getting an advantage that you can't earn with gameplay eventually.
Oh? Is there a skill I can use SP on to make complex dmg mods use 45 CPU?? No? Didn't think so.
Edit: You asked how else they could make money? Cosmetic stuff, since they used LoL as their influence to make DUST F2P. |

I dont use proto gear. I have 42k aur but I havent spent any of my aur on a single item. I just bought the merc pack and got the free 2k aur from being a plus member. I spent over a month using militia equipment. after 2 weeks of solid game play I was able to reach rank 1-5 consecutively on almost every skirmish map. Now I use a type 2 suit and all I play is ambush until they fix the skirmish afking. If there were so many great players using proto suits then why aren't I lower on the ranking list in my games? This entire morning I have been rank 1-2 in all my ambush games using only a type 2 suit. I will admit that the suit helps because I can equip shield extenders and prolong my life but even before when I used militia I had similar results. also cosmetic items can generate income but I think most people can agree that they wont spend money for cosmetics. Alot of diehard fans and players will buy the cosmetics but not enough to keep a game alive and running in the long term. And CCP's plans are very long term.
Just saying, if you take your Type 2 suit against a Proto player and he has the same skill as you, don't expect to beat him in a 1v1.
I quoted this in my own thread but I'll post it here again. CCP's Chief marketing officer David Reid:
GÇ£But say youGÇÖre a real gun nut and you wanna try out every game in the game. The virtual currency we sell, the Aurum, will allow you to use those guns. They wonGÇÖt give you an unfair advantage GÇô it is very important to us, as a skill-based game, a first person shooter, that free to play isnGÇÖt pay to win. So itGÇÖll allow you to customise and to sidegrade; weGÇÖll certainly sell a lot of cosmetic items that weGÇÖll allow you to buy and personalise your appearance a bit if you want to be a bright pink soldier weGÇÖll probably let you do that, but that wonGÇÖt be something youGÇÖll do as a free to play gamer.GÇ¥
I agree they need to make money, but where's the cosmetic stuff? All I've seen is stuff to give people an edge over others. Not really P2W, but certainly P2 get an edge. I won't mind paying to to see my gun a different color... hell I won't mind paying to have different scopes on my gun (AR, SR). Give me a BPO scope and I'll be all over that for example.
